A Sweet Treat for Valentine's Day
Whether you celebrate Valentine’s Day in the arms of a loved one or alone in the arms of your crippling Netflix addiction, we urge you to ignore that predictable box of Russel Stover’s and treat yourself. A local classic, Burke Candy & Ingredients has been satisfying Milwaukee’s sweet tooth for 90 years and holds confections to a higher standard, especially when a box of chocolates is the simplest way to say, “I love you.”
Burke is no stranger to love stories, in fact they were born from one. “Tim, the owner, had his family caramel recipe which he got from his grandfather, and Julia, his wife, had her grandmother’s toffee recipe. It’s a cute story,” Kitchen Manager Katie Severson explains. This love for both candy and each other has kept the Burke family business running for four generations, and they still adhere to those tried-and-true family recipes.
Burke’s pride lies in their high quality ingredients, leaving you craving more. “For Valentine’s Day we are going to have chocolate covered strawberries,” says Severson. Burke will stock strawberries from February 10th-14th and are available for call-ahead orders.
Not a fruit fan? No problem! “We always have our toffee and our caramels and special heart shaped boxes that people can fill themselves from the candy cases,” says Severson. This is the perfect opportunity to try any of their artfully crafted candies and truffles, like Severson’s favorite: the Mint Melt-away.
In fact, Burke will be showcasing the Mint Melt-away and other gourmet treats at “Bites of Love,” a 5-course beer and chocolate pairing with MobCraft Beer on Thursday, February 13th.
