The wise Julia Child said, “Anyone can cook,” and luckily, the Boelter SuperStore embodies this message. Located in Glendale, the SuperStore is the ultimate resource for a chef of any caliber, even beginners, to explore their potential in the kitchen. They carry everything from knives to quality glassware to bulk disposables, acting as a one-stop-shop for any food-centric needs, even hands-on education!

Walking into the Boelter SuperStore is an ethereal experience, with highly revered brands like Spiegelau and Vollrath decorating the sales floor. With shining displays of gleaming dishware, durable pots and pans and an entire section of quirky culinary tools and commercial grade cleaning products, there is something special for everyone. The amount of inventory is almost overwhelming, but that’s where Boelter truly shines; their customer service is paramount. SuperStore Manager Anette Righi DeFendi says, “In this showroom, we go the extra ten miles to help a customer. Even if we don’t stock something a customer is looking for, we will help them find it, even at another location that isn’t one of ours, so we can make sure they are truly getting what they want.”

The easiest way to kickstart your culinary passion is to invest in the right equipment. Purchasing high quality pots and pans guarantee even cooking, durable and sharp knives are proven to be safer than dull ones, and the right glassware can actually make your wine taste better! “We have really high quality products that are designed to be in a commercial kitchen, so the wear and tear, the high heat dishwashers, everything in here is designed to be used and abused,” DeFendi says. “If you have a family with young children who beat things up, the quality of product you’ll find in the SuperStore is much different than any retail product.”

Having the professional guidance from Boelter’s employees in a sea of commercial-grade equipment is such a valuable resource, and yet Boelter offers even more personalized experiences. The Boelter Superstore’s Culinary Director Chef Michael Solovey hosts various cooking classes, even a knife skills class, where you can try out any knife before making a purchase, guaranteeing you pick tools that are of great quality and lend themselves to the personal style of each individual. In addition to finding the correct equipment, Chef Michael teaches preparation skills, cooking techniques, and educates guests on flavor profiles with a myriad of both hands-on and demonstration classes. Chef Michael says, “Our mission here is to educate people, to inspire them to cook more, and to really give them the confidence to move forward and trust themselves and the culinary instinct that they’ll build in this space.”

Chef Michael, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, does more than just teach basic recipes. He educates guests on Ayurvedic techniques (emphasizing fresh, in season foods that are prepared in a conscious, loving manner) and food science, but thinks that his classes are valuable because, “It builds culinary instinct, so we’re not as dependent on a recipe.” Chef Michael wants to help the everyday cook become hyper aware of the difference in quality of equipment and ingredients, treating each facet of cooking with care. “When your culinary instinct is sharp, you’re paying attention to the right details. And we’re happier because we’re having more success in the kitchen, and our food tastes amazing. That’s sort of what we’re all about at Boelter.”
